John M. Koenig
John Koenig joined the Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State in 1984. He has served abroad as Principal Officer, American Consulate General Thessaloniki; Political-Military Officer/Deputy Political Counselor, American Embassy Athens, Senior Political Officer, American Embassy Nicosia; Political Officer, American Embassy Jakarta; Political Officer, American Embassy Berlin; and Vice Consul, American Embassy Manila. He has also served at the State Department in Washington, as Staff Assistant in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs and as Watch officer in the Operations Center. John Koenig holds a Masters of Arts, Foreign Relations, from John Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies, Washington, DC, and a Bachelor of Arts, Anthropology from the University of Washington, Seattle, Washington. He speaks Greek, German, and Indonesian. Born in 1958 in Tacoma, Washington, John Koenig grew up in the Puget Sound area. His wife, Natalie, is from Bellingham, Washington. They have two sons, Ted (born 1990) and Alex (born 1992).
