Estonia Takes Delivery of Javelin Anti-Tank Missiles

The Estonian military received a second tranche of anti-tank missiles on March 20. The $33 million purchase of Javelins was funded with U.S. European Reassurance Initiative funds. The U.S.-produced Javelin missile can defeat any tank in the world and is the standard system used by the U.S. Army. Working together to acquire this important defensive capability demonstrates the Alliance commitment to self-reliance and mutual aid to harden national defenses against external security threats.

“Estonia’s decision to secure the Javelin anti-tank missile system is an example of delivering on their national responsibilities for self-defense embedded in Article 3 of the NATO Treaty, “ said Ambassador Douglas Lute, U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO . “The U.S. decision to use ERI funds to supplement Estonia’s investment demonstrates our continued commitment to helping bolster the security of our Allies to ensure a Europe that is whole, free and at peace.”

Recently, the Estonian Military tested their newly-acquired Javelin anti-tank guided missile system in a live fire exercise. HERE is a nice video of the live-fire exercise with Estonia’s new tank buster.
